### Bio

Hi! My name is Alex Waltz.

I have been in the Bitcoin space for quite some time and have been part of various projects over the years.

In the early years, I was involved in a few mining projects and most recently, I had a Bitcoin OTC desk in London, which I closed down to pursue filmmaking.

I very strongly believe that truly great things only come out of obsession, and doing mediocre work is the ultimate betrayal of one's soul.

Besides filmmaking and Bitcoin, I very much enjoy meditation.

### JOINMARKET — Spec Ad

Spec ad for JoinMarket — and more precisely jamapp, a now-defunct decentralised open-source implementation of coinjoins.

The commercial is based on the famous cypherpunk manifesto. Specific parts of the manifesto are read by a female voice, and for each section we get different visuals.

The visual style of the video is very symbolic and very slow. The commercial has a very slow pace and there is one visual per scene as follows.

The video was released with the [mega Twitter thread](https://x.com/raw_avocado/status/1691436684548689920) which covers everything from JoinMarket's beginnings to the features it has. The thread has images shot specifically for this in a visual style consistent with the video, and the coin theme is enforced via physical coins and round shapes.

Teaser for an upcoming documentary that explores the counterintuitive and obscure design choices of Bitcoin.

Stars: Josie Bake, Daniela Brozzoni, Sjors Provoost and Lisa Neigut.

I noticed that for some reason people have an extremely harsh reaction if I mention Satoshis do not exist; I found this quite interesting since they almost never wanted to even hear an explanation.

I found this so interesting and decided to investigate further, and made my way to the BTC Azores, a Bitcoin Unconference.

**Transcript:**

> Alex: Josie, do Satoshis exist?

### LIANA WALLET — Commercial

I was commissioned by [Wizardsardine](https://wizardsardine.com/) to create a launch video for their new Bitcoin wallet that supported miniscript (one of the first at the time) and allowed key recovery using strictly Bitcoin script.

The video shows a series of situations where the protagonist loses keys and can not access things.

The tone of the commercial is light-hearted and quite comic at some point, showing the protagonist not being able to take off plush handcuffs as he lost the key.

**Transcript:**

> Voice from elevator: Doors opening. 21st floor.

> The protagonist gets out of the elevator and walks to his door. As he approaches he realises he lost his keys. Freeze frame and big drum heavy fast paced Jazz music starts.

> But sometimes you do know, because it's your own fault.

### WOLVERHAMPTON — Travel Video

I had just gotten my new Sony a7iv camera and I wanted to test it, and figured a travel video would be the best for this.

But since everyone always tries to make these videos in the nicest cities, I wanted to go the other way and also kind of prove that any place can be cinematic, and that's how I chose Wolverhampton.

The video is a montage of various places filmed in the city, cut over Tony Dallara's "Come Prima".

I had just gotten my new BLAZAR REMUS 1.5x Anamorphic lenses and I wanted to test them before shooting a commercial.

London on a summer day seemed like it would be the perfect choice for the slightly distorted wide aspect ratio look the lenses offer.

The video is a montage of various places filmed in the city, cut over Fausto Papetti's "La Dolce Vita".

## Photos

**How the gallery works:** the live `/photos/` page uses a JavaScript lightbox (lightGallery). The thumbnail grid is rendered by `/js/photos.js` reading gallery arrays into the DOM at runtime; clicking a thumbnail opens a fullscreen viewer and the URL becomes a hash route like `/photos/#lg=joinmarket&slide=c01-v01`.

**Why an LLM has trouble accessing photos:** the hash portion of a URL is client-side only — it never reaches the server. An HTTP client fetching `/photos/#lg=...` just gets the photos page HTML, which itself has empty placeholder `<div>` containers (the photos are JS-rendered into them). So an LLM or non-rendering crawler cannot reach individual photos by browsing the site normally.

**Why use the list below:** each link points directly to the underlying static JPG file on Cloudflare Pages — bypasses the lightbox, requires no JavaScript, and is fetchable by any HTTP client. If you want to access or vision-analyze a specific photo, use these URLs. Each photo's link is to its largest JPG (the same file the lightbox loads in fullscreen).

The full title is "ON LICENSING — or: what's mine, what's yours, and what's everyone's."

This website is two different things stacked on top of each other:

- **The code** — the HTML, CSS, and JavaScript that makes pages render, galleries fade, typography scale.
- **The work** — the photos, films, and writings.

They are not the same kind of thing, and they don't deserve the same rules.

### The code — GPLv3

The website code is released under the GNU General Public License v3. Read it, [fork it](https://github.com/alexwaltz/code_alexwaltz.com_Public), modify it, build your own portfolio on top of it. The gallery runs on [lightGallery](https://www.lightgalleryjs.com/), also GPLv3 — meaning any derived work must carry the same license: publish your source, keep it free, and require everyone downstream to do the same.
